Question:

How to go to Paris from Roissy CDG Cedex?

I'll be leaving tom and will be staying in France for a couple of days only. We are checked in at Sofitel CDG Airport, because it is closer to the airport, and I would very much want to see Paris for the usual tourist destinations.

Can somebody direct me how to go there? What train to take and around how much would it cost?

Merci beaucoup! I'm looking forward to this trip. :)

  1. You take the RER suburban train into Paris. The airport's the last stop, so take any inbound train, about 1/2 to the city stops where you can get off or change for the Metro to travel elsewhere in Paris. It costs 8,30 each way but I'd get a Paris Visite card which is good all day for your RER round trip and metro and bus in the city. It's 18 eur for one day, 27,50 for two days.

The other possibility is the Roissybus airport bus that goes from the airport to the Opera in the middle of Paris for 8,60 euros each way. I'd take the train, it's faster and cheaper.

  2. RER to Gare Nord then switch to the metro into Chatlet which is the closest and most convenient and largest stop in the city. You will have to go to and from the Chatlet and the return to Gare Nord to go back to CDG so remember this. IT will cost about 8 Euros which you can get thru the Kiosk at the airport ( down stairs  -2 small escalators) OR yu can Q-up at the ticket transport and buy your pass's there. I have found that it's a time save if you but two second class tickets for the return. BTW U can also use a charge card or debit at both places.  Avoir,..:-)

  3. It was a bad idea to check in at a hotel near the airport, you should have booked in Paris to enjoy the night life and save time and money on the unnecessary 90-minute round trip between the hotel and Paris. If there is no cancelation fee then it's still time to reconsider your choice.

But anyway, if you are staying at your hotel, take RER B to Paris and get off at Chatelet-les-Halles or even better St-Michel Notre Dame (you'll be right outside Notre Dame and in the heart of the Latin Quarter), they are the most central stations. You can also connect with any metro line depending on where you want to go. Look at the map given by David above.

A Paris Visite pass is never a good idea, it's a tourist scam. You should get a Mobilis pass, it is valid all day in and outside Paris and costs 12.50 euros from Roissy. You need to ask for a Mobilis zones 1-5. You can buy both passes the first day, but each pass will only be valid if you write the date that you'll be using it on. Have a great time in Paris!

  4. From Roissy CDG airport, you'd take the RER B to get to Paris. (It's the only train there and the only direction you can go, so you don't have to worry about getting on the wrong train.) Line B provides access to a number of other RER lines, as well as quite a few métro lines. (The RER is a regional express train, with limited stops in the city proper but quite a few in the suburbs, while the métro is the subway.) If I remember correctly, the trip lasts roughly 45 minutes, though it depends on whether you're on an express or a local (I once caught an express RER from Paris to CDG, and the trip was substantially shorter as a result), and of course which station you go to in Paris. Here's a link that doesn't require any downloading: http://www.plandeparis.info/plans-de-met... (RER B is a blue line extending northeast of the city.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RER_B

"Cedex" is simply a special zip code ("postal code" in British English) reserved for bulk mail delivery (corporate headquarters, government agencies, etc): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pos...
