How to go up the quarter pipe on a bmx?

I ride up and go over the medium sized quarter but i never land it, either my pedal hits the lip, i lose my balance and tip sideways or i nosedive, my friends say i should go slower because im goin way to high, but im **** scared i wont make it all the way over. Help pleaseee!

ride real fast and go up leaning forward not backward or u will fall off
