How to grow a bonsai tree,?

a Banyan plant (Ficus bengalensis) which I planted in a bonsai pot ten years ago has grown to 1½ feet only ,but the leafs are in the normal size of a big Banyan tree.Please tell me what must be the reason?

  1. It's the branches and roots that were dwarfed and not the leaves. This is a drawback when people want to bonsai fruit trees. The fruit is too heavy for the branches to support. Here's a site with care instructions. Your leaves are normal size.
