  1. only some trees grow from limbs, name the kind

  2. Don't start a tree from a limb.  Start a new tree from a sucker,  also known as a water sprout.  These are the shoots that grow straight up.  you can try putting them in a rooting compound or you can graft some to another tree or rootstock.  Unless your tree is a rare variety it would be a lot easier to buy a new tree from a nursery.  If it is a rare variety you can get help from a plant preservation group.  Another great resource is your county extension service.  They are one of the few useful government agencies.

  3. pick a small, healthy limb, skin a band of bark off about 1 inch wide, wrap it in peat or sphagnum moss, treat it with rootone, wrap it in tin foil or plastic, keep it moist and watch for root growth- it will take several weeks- when root growth is substantial, cut it and plant it. as stated before, it wont work with all types.

  4. You would need to GRAFT it .check with a gardener..
