Hi there,

I own a very small garden plot and growing lettuce; however, the weather is too hot, about 100F from June to Sep., all lettuce I got taste bitter. I know lettuce is kind of cool-season vegetable, but I do want to grow it in summer. Any idea?

  2. I will be watching your question.  Our lettuce in our garden is "hasta la vista"......we are hot now.  My Sister, as Master Gardener that has a garden on her ranch to DIE for.....says, "When the temperature reaches over 80 degrees, you cannot grow lettuce."  She has let her lettuce go to seed.  We have had the hottest June on record since 1925 in the Hill Country of Central Texas....trust me...our and her lettuce is history.  I will watch to see what others say.

  3. Ok so when the fall arrives plant tyhe seeds in a grow tray or a pot with high nutritionnal supplements, plant theseeds about 1 cm deep andhen cover it with soil and moisten it, let them grow in a sunny window and leave the window closed and water it when the soil is dry and as it gets bigger keep planting them and they should be ready in 3-5 months!!!

Do not fertilize since it will kill all the nutrients and the real taste of the lettuce!!!

    Have a good day!!!
