How to grow medical marijuana - I have no experience

Question

My husband has a very rare bone disease called Fibrous Dysplasia. For him it affects his skull. The bones of the skull don't stop growing which puts a lot of pressure on the brain. He has been taking Oxycontin for a long time but that worries me because he has become dependent. He saw his doctor yesterday & they suggested medical marijuana. I would be much happier with that than the Oxy.

My question is . . . how do I grow it? I have been growing flowers & plants from seed for a long time. I have grow lights & electrical heating mats but I have no clue how to grow marijuana. I'm assuming it is grown differently than your average seedling. And then it needs to be dried? How is that done? I'm totally lost.

Do you know of any websites that could help me? Thanks a bunch!

There are almost as many ways to grow as there are strains of the plant. IC has large forums devoted to growing and divided into indoor, outdoor, hydro and soil, with organic and non-organic divisions.  There are also strain reports, medical forums, info on harvesting, drying and curing, etc. etc.

Growing it is not so different than growing any other plant, and it's a weed, so it's actually rather difficult to fail if you have some knowlege of basic gardening.

For best results, a few things need to be paid attention to. Marijuana needs light and dark for equal periods to induce flowering. The flowers are the medicine. It is also one of the few plants in which male and female is expressed on different plants. For best results, males need to be identified and removed as soon as they show their s*x. Unfertilized females will produce more medicine of better quality.  Size of the plants can be controlled by keeping them under lights 24/7 until they are about 1/3 to 1/2 the size you eventually want to end up with. Once put under 12/12 lighting, they will continue to stretch as they start to flower.  Generally speaking, the bigger the plant the greater the yield. Some people grow many small plants, others only grow a few "trees."

Something else to consider when choosing a growing method is your location and its legal status. Check NORML.com for state laws across the country. Most states with med laws have plant limits, and in states that do not allow for medical grows there are usually limits to distinguish misdemeanor and felony penalties.

marijuana is grown the same as any plant for the following reasons:

its a plant.

growing is really easy. especially if you already know how to grow other plants. there are certain things you can do to increase the yield or size of the buds but other than that theres nothing really special you need to do.

Your experience in growing flowers is good.

Basically marijuana has two stages- Vegetation and Flowering

Vegetation: This is the period of time(up to 4 months for bigguns) were the plant is growing as rapid as possible. You can veg in continous light(no dark periods) Once theyre big enough to flower(average like 4-5 feet) you start the flowering period

Flowering: To enduce the flowering period you change the light to 12/12, and make sure its not interupted at all. This process will take up to 3 months.

Also, a few pointers from me:

400watt Flourescent or HPS lighting can do about 25 plants. Make sure they are cool white or daylight bulbs if flourescent.

Soil and organic grows are much more effecient for medical purposes, especially if you like eating it.

Worm castings are marijuana's favourite food, they absolutely love it and grow extremely fast when applied, so make sure you get some to mix into the soil, trust me you need this stuff unless you wanna use chemical nutrients.

Drying and curing is easy as h**l, don't worry about it.

If you have agricultural experience, even just a little, you'll find all of this very easy.

look into hydro gardening indoors no insects and the plants get 24 hrs of light then when they are big enough you change the light and go to 12 on 12 off will start the budding process you needn good seed to produce the best budes there are some sites on the web to help you out if you grow outside then you have to worry about people robbing  your plants with indoor one you start learning how to grow good stuff then you can start doing cuttings from you female plant and continue to always have bud the trick is to grow female plants males are no good they will polinate the female and your buds will producwe a bunch of seeds not good you want sensomelian there are cheap lighting sets to get you started but you need closet or you can go to home depot and buyyou one of them plastic clothers closets then buy one of them medal racks that hold clothing and assemble it inside the plastic closet cut holes in the bottom after you assemble it make sure you get the one with the wheels so you can move it around easyer it will have 2 shelfs and a clothes bar for hanging i put top shelf all the way to top other shelf to bottom were i set my hydro set up give plants plenty of room to grow it will hold about 6 plants hang light from top and your set there is alot to growing this was one cheaper way i desind insted of one of them big grren rooms cause i had to keep thing low if you grow in closet there are lots of diffrent things you will need to bring in fresh air to the plants and a charcoal filter system they are expensive my set up didnt need all that cause i would move it close to the window in the corner open th plastic closet door and fan in fresh air  it worked pretty d**n good for growning natural untreated bud and i only used local found seeds there are great seeds you can buiy from amsterdam or canada on line but i would be affraid to loose my money when they try and send acrros the border a friend of mine did it and he got his  but i hate loosing money so dont recomend it but the quality of bud is the best it took me lots of learnignbefore i attemted this including lots of reading MOST IMPORTANT if yopu decide to do this you cannot tell or brag or show anyone i repete anyone for your own satey and your plants cause someone will rob you or turn you in so keep it hush hush

I've grown a few cannabis plants before, I grew my first cannabis plant when I was 12 or 13 but It died. Since then I've grew a few other plants, and have known a lot of growers, got a lot better at it. First thing first you need the seeds, there's a lot of seed banks that will sell you diffrent strains, I would recommend getting "Feminized seeds" since that produces the bud, you want FEMALE PLANTS. It can get expensive to buy seeds from diffrent seed banks but Its worth it, bad weed has bad seeds, Its worth the money to buy from a seed bank basically is what Im saying.

My suggestion to you since your a first time grower is to pick up a high times magazine, or go to hightimes.com. They also have a lot of cannabis cultivation DVDs out that you can buy it would help a lot, they have books, etc. personally I like the DVDs because Im more of a visual learner. I suggest you go to some MJ growing message boards and do some reading up. Its not hard but 5 months from start to finish. I also sugget you use female clones or feminized seeds. Go to your local book store and buy a good Mj grow book.
