Question:

How to handle a clogged pipe with few resources?

I'm in a dorm with limited resources. My drain is clogged b/c my boyfriend tried to wash half a bowl of Just Bunches! down it. I tried Draino, but there was still water in the pipe, so it didn't go down. I let that wash out, and then poured some peroxide down to try to eat it out, but I have a feeling that won't work. We also tried a hanger, but it seems to be stuck in the bend. Any suggestions?

  1. I agree with the other guy's answer. You need a plunger cost less than $10 and sounds like it will be a good investmnet for you.

  2. Take the trap off the botom of the sink and clean it out.

  3. Use a snake.  Tell your boyfriend to buy one and use it in the drain.  I don't believe anything that you pour down a drain will do a good job even if it manages to clear any part of a clog.  Snakes rarely if ever fail.

By the way, a 'trap' is there to trap water and nothing else.  They don't clog up except in rare cases.  A plunger is for unclogging a toilet and maybe a kitchen sink if it is a single drain.

  4. taking the trap apart would make sense as the  food is swelled up in the trap , but if you can find  a plunger i would just plunge the sink , if it is a lavatory sink when you plunge make sure you cover up the overflow holes with a damp rag ,  plunging should move the clog along

  5. Home Depot is open late Night. If you can get there - purchase DrainO or ask someone who works there.
