How to handle living with a control freak?

I have been living with someone for 18 months and are consistantly yelling at myself and my son. They also tell me when I can and can not have a drink. I am 40 years old and would like to leave but cant due to finaces. Does anyone know of anything that I can do to deal with this situation? I also think that he might be seeing someone else on the side as he will goto work early, come home late and I found a pair of sunglasses in the car that did not belong to me.

You MUST get out of that situation. You say you have no finances, so you need to seek help. You dont say what country you are in? if you are in the UK, go to see your gp and he/she can put you in touch with an organisation that can help you and your son. What he is doing is a form of domestic violence. Domestic violence doesnt just mean physical violence, it can mean mental and emotional cruelty too.

oh man. the best thing to do is to leave. what about relatives? women's shelter? friends?

Call your local police and ask them if they have a home in your city for abused women.  Get there and talk to them, they can help you get back on your feet.
