  1. Yes the Players Salaries need to go up but the money gotta come from somewhere. What the NRL really needs to look at is how it markets brand in a global market. The English premier league in considered the best league football league "off-the field" in terms of marketing and management, merchandise etc. Australia is producing the on field result, while the English Super League is doing better off the field. hence the player drain here. The NRL needs to get good pay TV rights across the globe, merchandise happening globally, then this can filter down the clubs and then the player pay packets

  2. let them go to wherever they want. the players that do go are only after money and news headlines. eg gasnier, sbw, etc. it makes room for players that play for the game not fame and fortune.

  3. More teams... that would help, NZ want a second team... PNG want a team... The Central Coast / Bears would jump at the chance to get back in. h**l... bring back the Mighty Newtown Jets.

Players will always have that greed factor where they have to chase more money, Or they'll get old and want to play a few more years in England, Or they'll want to go to a game where you watch people kick penalty goals all game long.

More cashed up clubs would keep some players in Australia... but as long as we produce talent... people are going to look to steal it.

  4. Not much you can do. We need a salary cap or about 10 teams would be uncompetetive and go broke. I understand the players though. If you were working at $150,000 a year - and can't get a raise as the company (club) can not spend anymore - then another company offered you the equivalent of $500,000 - are you saying you wouldn't take it? Then you are an idiot. I would go.

But if then the money becomes available in Australia 3 years later, and you want to come back, why not. People who think that players are disloyal for tripling there salary have to have a hard look at themselves. I just left an Australian company to move to the US for double my wage. Should I have shown loyalty to the Australian company that employs 14,000 but didn't want to pay as per the market rate - or should I have done the right thing to get ahead and set myself and my kids up.

  5. Raise the salary cap... Salary cap in NRL $4.1M, salary cap in ESL $5M, salary cap in French rugby ...? ($10M?). The salary cap is wreaking havoc with our game and clearly the big money is overseas. Introduce a Loyalty bonus for players staying at 1 club for more than 10 years. Maybe 10% after 10 years +1% each year after that (not included under cap).  Allow all players to be sponsored by outside companies.. e.g. Nike, Champion, Adidas. Whaterver... Why should one player's sponsorship deals affect other players? The NRL is at a crisis point right now, clubs losing money through the pokey tax, raising of tax on alcohol and patrons of clubs not allowed to smoke except in 'special rooms'. I wonder how many clubs will survive the next 10 years? I hear Dragons lost $2M in revenue so far this year. This is a club that has already amalgamated! Private investment maybe the only answer and RAISE THE SALARY CAP TO $5 OR $6 MILL.... Well that's my rant hope this helps...
