I am going on holiday to Malta on the 20th August and was wondering how hot it would actually be and also as I've heard it is very hot but not totally sure about how could I handle it? I have been to Spain, Greece etc but apparently it is even hotter I'm not sure if I could handle the heat. Also what kind of heat is it? Preferably answers from people that either live there or have been there a lot.

  1. Wear a cap!! It makes an astounding difference. I could not stand wihout it in foreign countries + sun cream cools you a bit and drink lots of cold water to keep you fresh. Or sit under a big umbrella all day:P

I was going to Malta too but flights were all booked up:(:(

  2. It is very hot in Malta - it is the only place where I have ever had sunstroke!  It is not just the heat of the sun but the sun reflected from the sandstone buildings, pavements/roads and the island itself.  Please wear a decent large brimmed hat - that will give you the best protection.  As there is often a breeze, it is very easy to underestimate just how hot it is.  Also, use plenty of sun protection, drink lots of water and not too much booze.  Malta is lovely and there is so much to see but don't try to do too much.  If you want to go sightseeing, go early in the morning before it gets too hot.  Have an afternoon siesta and stay up later in the evening - live like the Maltese do and you will be OK.

  3. It's hot alright but not unbearable. in fact at the moment it's a very nice 23 ot 25 degrees. There is also a wonderful sea breeze along the entire coast so you should not suffer unless you are very fair skinned/red haired. You should wear a high factor, stay out of the sun between 11 and 3 and take all the usual precautions. The ideal advice to a person not used to this sunshine and heat is to NOT drink any alcohol at least 2 days before you arrive, NONE while you are here, this way you gain so much from being able to get out in the sunshine and get all it's benefits. If you insist on arriving with alcohol in your system and then drinking every night of your holiday the heat will appear unbearable but this is a false situation, it is your liver that is suffereing because you are dehydrated, drink loads of water all through the day and go indoors at the hottest period of the day and have a little nap you will get used to this after 3 days and will look and feel brilliant after your holiday.(This advice is for perfection mind you !!!)

  4. I've never really considered Malta to be as hot as Greece, or even Cyprus, but, to help cope with the heat, you should maybe wear a wide brimmed hat, stay out of the direct sun between 11.00.am and 3.00.pm., and make sure you drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
