Question:

How to handle the interruptions...?

Working as a Sales assistant i'm interrupted daily.. what is the proper way to handle this! i'm required to leave e-mail up and answer phones and accept the taps on my shoulder. some times it's too much and but i'm not allowed to ignore them! or tell them to wait! i mean it can be for a minute and i say that now.. "one second let me wrap this up i'll be right over"

the part that is frustrating is i get interrupted for telling people to scroll up or down to see all attachments or how to copy and paste.

The other day i e-mailed someone 6 documents they said they only got 3 of them! so i go over to there computer and said nope all 6 are there you have to scroll down to see them all.

this happened again today! on someone's hot mail account they hit forward and it went right to the message screen.. (where do i put the e-mail address in to send it) so i get up walk to there office and tell them to scroll up!

i feel it's a waste of my time! but i guess that's the joys of understanding basic computer functions! But again how should i handle these with out being a brat or snippy!!! when i'm soo frustrated!

  1. Sounds to me as though you are under employed and being used for more than a sales assistant.

    Perhaps there is someone (supervisor or manager) you could suggest that you provide basic training/support for those employees who lack computer skills - for a pay/position title  increase of course.

    Otherwise, I would look for another position where your talents would be appreciated - could be a good career move.


  2. THis never ends. I opened my own business in 2001.  For the first time in my life i'm not interrupted.  I wish i had done it years ago. /

    they are being just plain rude. i would suggest that you make a trouble shooting document and post one in each office i would also suggest that you make a list of their issues ex:

    make a graph with one table asking them to state their name and another stating their problem if it is an emergency tell them that then thy can interrupt but only if it is a matter of life or death. also confront your boss.
