Question:

How to have a Cheap Education

by  |  earlier

My family is very poor. We have enough to get by..but that's it.

Now comes the issue of education. I'm 16 years old..and finally realizing that I can't go to any college that I want. But I do need an education, and need to find EXTREMELY affordable ways to get anywhere I can.

I'm willing to work extremely hard..and get a job to start paying fees.

Help?

  1. If you work hard in high school and get accepted to a decent or good school, it is most likely that they will help you generously with the costs via grants, scholarships, or loans. The FAFSA is the best way to go about getting this type of aid.

  2. study hard in school. u should join study club in your school. if u study hard in school. you are on your way to go HAVARD! Trust me it really works. my family is kinda poor too. study hard and remember to focus. life is hard. and its not gonna do it for ya. in fact, thanks to my efforts, i work at APPLE.

  3. You're smart to start thinking about your post-high school education now.

    • The first thing to do is to make sure you get good grades in school, as well as be active in school activities.  This, along with good scores on PSATs, ACT or SAT's, will go a long way in helping you find scholarships and grants to help defray college costs, since these are the key elements that college admissions officers look for.

    • Think about your career choices and what the education requirements are.  Perhaps it may be less expensive to start out at a two-year junior college to save money before transferring to a 4-year school. Also look at scholarships and grants available for your particular career.

    • Talk with your guidance counselor to get some additional assistance and insights.

    • Take a look at http://www.studentloantruth.org.  This web site has alot of good basic information to help you understand the college financing picture, including a planning timeline for high school juniors and seniors: http://www.studentloantruth.org/student-...

    Good luck!
