How to have a rat retrieve something?

1. ok so im trying to teach my rats to retrieve a ring but im not sure how to get them to bring it to me?

any ideas, links, thoughts

2. if i made a rat cage from a book shelf could it chew throught the walls?

Google clicker training rats to get info on how to train your rat to do just about anything.  It takes patience but once your rat figures out the concept it can be a lot of fun.

Rats can chew through almost anything... I think they would love to have a book shelf to chew!

The way a friend of mine trained his rat to play fetch was to give the rat a little treat (like a Cheerio) each time the bottle cap was brought back to him. At first he would show the rat the bottle cap and then toss it. His rat would go to it, and the my friend would tap the floor and the rat would come back to him. It took a few tries to get the rat to bring the bottle cap when he came back. As for your rat chewing through a bookshelf, it is possible so you should line the inside with something that cannot be chewed through, like tile. Good luck. I hope this helps!
