I am teaching this brilliant swimmer who is only 4 years old. Diving feet first for some reason is one of his biggest fears and I am determinedto help him overcome that. Do you guys have any suggestions or methods you've come up with?

  1. Focusing your energy on his one weakness can be counter-productive. Instead, build his confidence by teaching him new skills. Periodically check back to see if he's willing to give jumping a try. If not, move on to something else.

  2. Tell him you will catch him, and catch him or if you are out of the water lift him up and plop him in feet first keeping your hands on him always, little kids like to feel secure. Catch or put him in the first few times then he will hopefully see how fun it is and will want to do it by himself like a "big kid"
