How to help my 1 year old sleep at night?

His crib is in our room. I would lay in my bed as he went to sleep, but we are trying to break him of this habit. Yes, we have a bedtime routine but once he touches that crib, the top of his lungs screaming starts. It lasts for about 20 minutes, then he is fine for the night. We have been doing this for a couple of weeks now. In the evenings, he's even starting to scream whenever I walk out of the room. Any suggestions in comforting my little one? (if your wondering, we don't have to luxury of giving him his own room) Thank you for the suggestions!!

  1. Try this book/website.  There are alot of great suggestions/ideas that do not involve letting him cry it out (which sounds like you are not for : )

  2. at around 17 months we got my son a twin sized bed with a rail to keep him from falling.  as with your son, my son also would fall asleep if we laid with him, but would scream as soon as he'd touch the crib.  now we lay in bed with him (in his own bed) and read a few books and he falls asleep.  the next step for us is to have him fall asleep on his own.  one step at a time, right...  :)
