My 6 month old spits up extremly bad she has since she was about 2 months old. But now that she's on more cereal and little whole food the spitting up is getting worse. She spitts up at least half of all she eats. She is still gaining weight but I feel so bad for her I mean people don't like to hold her because they are afraid of being puked on, she has a very bad pukey smell to her and when we go out in public people look at me bad because my child just barfed all over the floor. The dr gave her zantac about 3 months ago but it's not helping she is on gas drops in all of her bottles but that not helping. When is going to stop how can I help my daughter.

  1. Oh.... poor mommy and baby......  i feel bad for both of you.... for you because of all the laundry and mess and having to watch baby go through that..... and for baby cause its no fun to be throwing up all the time! :(     I would go back to the doctor and tell them that the zantac is NOT working and we need to look into some other treatment options.  If your doctor doesn't have the answer you are looking for then I would ask for a referral to a specialist who is more knowledgeable about her problem.

  2. could she be allergic to what your feeding her. you should start feedingher one food at a time and evey 3 days reintroduce a new food to her.

Also I would try another formula. Has the doctor suggested allergies to you?

  3. Hi, there!

Well, I can assure you that it gets easier. The only question is when.

My daughter was a 27 week preemie and came home with a terrible reflux problem, I must tell you that the key was to find a competent Pediatric Gastroenterologist, they are the specialists and they will take EVERY detail about your daughter into consideration. My daughter used to spit up evry single meal when she came home and that is because she came home on Prevacid and on Preemie formula. Turns out, the Gastro. recommended to Up the dosage a little (according to her weight) and changed her formula to Regular formula (in the meantime my daughter's pediatrician gave me 4 different formulas to try as if my daughter was a lab rat). I remember dreading feeding my daughter because everything around us had to be covered in order not to get puke on. I recall saying: I'll start feeding this girl in the tub and dress her with just diapers ! (that's how bad it was and I'm sure you can relate). Making long story short: Find a Pediatric Gastroenterologist - your pediatrician will not have the right expertise. The trick for your daughter could be changing the dose or just switching her to Prevacid. I promise it will get better! Hang in there  and contact me if you need any more info. Good luck!

  4. Most of the time they outgrow reflux by age 1.  My son takes Zantac and Mylanta together.  His spitting up got worse for a little while after he started solids but then he adjusted and now he hardly ever spits up.  Just give it some time, it will get better I promise!

  5. Have they ever changed her formula ? Enfamil makes one for babies that spit up bad.

  6. You need to call your pediatrician and tell them you need this resolved, that Zantac is not working.  She may have a reflux condition that they need to address.  I would not hesitate taking her to another pediatrician if this one isn't helping. I think this condition goes beyond gas drops!  (have you tried Gripe Water??...you can get it at Walgreens or a health food store) It won't stop the condition but may lessen it. I would call the pediatrician and set up another appt.

I am sure it is difficult for you...hang in there!
