Question:

How to help my son build self confidence at school?

My son is very confident at home but school is another matter. He rates home a 10 and school a 3 for confidence. He is worried about good grades, but is extremely smart and has never had bad grades. I think this is a reason for his misbehavior at school. I have a meeting with his teacher monday and want suggestions to help this situation. Thanks.

  1. You might ask if she has any ideas why his confidence level drops when at school.  It could be simple shyness or social anxiety.  Just try to make sure he is not getting picked on or bullyed.  His misbehavior may be a defense against something he percieves at school.  Sometimes kids/people try to bring down the smarter ones.

  2. If hes only 8 Theres nothing to worry about,

Maybe be harsh on the littler kids but if he was in 8th GRADE then id give you a better answer

  3. Maybe he is having a problem with another child at school? Maybe he doesn't want to be ostracized for being smart so he doesn't work to his full potential and misbehaves to fit in? School is so hard on kids these days....not for the educational aspect, but the social aspect. Maybe you can have a meeting with the school guidance counselor with your son to try to get to the bottom of it and find ways to work it out together. Knowing you're behind him and support him might make a big difference. I wish you all the luck! Let us know what happens at your meeting!

  4. What grade?

    Age?

Depends i guess... if around 5th or middle school...wanting to be popular might be a situation(don't want to do anything dumb in front of other kids) At home he doesn't worry about getting fun of but school is a different story.(sorry if this doesnt help)~Self Confidence

Misbehavior hmmm might have to do with getting picked on.usually the "nerd" gets picked on at school.
