Question:

How to hide IP from Cable Co? ?

I heard that the cable co is sending out letters to people who download pirated movies and TV shows. They are tracking via IP address. Is there any way to actually prevent your IP address from being seen or recorded by the cable company? Like a way to mask it or better yet, a program to do it?

thanks in advance!

  1. Lol you cant hide the ipaddress from them...they are the ones giving you the ipaddress. Besides, they havent started to charge people yet. The FCC is on their butts because of this. They are not charging because of the pirated movies/music/programs but because of the bandwidth you use. So yeah, people that leave their computers downloading music could be the ones charged for this. But the moment i get even 1 extra $ on my bill its BYE BYE comcast. I aint paying over for that. The internet is not a cellphone service that charges you for extra minutes. You pay for the access no matter how much you use it.

But anyways, no theres no way you can hide it from them!

  2. Probably not from the cable company considering that they assign your IP address. Basically when you pay your internet bill every month you are paying for the use of their IP address to access public bandwidth. The number of IP addresses is limited, so the cable company has a license to distribute a certain group of addresses. You are leasing that address which they "own" so in short...I doubt you can hide it. You can try a proxy server which masks your IP from outside sites, but I think your ISP can still see it.

  3. the cable company who supplies the internet are the ones who give you the IP address in the first place, so they already know who you are.

  4. The cable co will always know your IP because they are the ones who assign it to you..but you can use a proxy to avoid having them track you around the Internet.  Basically they will see the IP address you were assigned up until the point where you go through the proxy.  After that your IP is hidden and the server generates a new one for you.

  5. go thru a proxy
