How to hit harder in football?

Hi I'm a high school football player and I am wondering how I can hit harder on my tackles? tips please!

  1. WHEN MAKING CONTACT WRAP YOUR ARMS AROUND THEIR BODY AND LIFT THEM UP. AKA WRAPPIMG UP AND THROWING YOUR HIPS THROUGH!!! GET GET GET GET GET IT BOI !!!


  2. You don't necessarily need to hit hard, you need to make a sure tackle. I've seen a lot of pros hit hard, but they don't seem to know how to hit and wrap up the ball carrier. A hard hit does not always mean the ball carrier is going down. Give me a sure tackler over a hard hitter any day.

    i had practice today in freshman football and im the smallest one out there but alot of people told me i was one of the hardest hitting ones so just get low and you can take down anybody

  4. Run faster and just explode as you get ready to hit, and yes like the other guy said go in with some fire and be angry at the other guy!

You gotta get low, brother.  Don't worry about getting hurt or getting ran over.  If you get low (like when doing a squat press), you can explode through the call carrier.  What position you play also depends on the strategy.  If you're a cornerback, just wait until you see a receiver jumping to get a pass and then try to put your shoulder pads into his rib cage.  Next pass over the middle, he won't even try...

    If you're trying to get a running back, just get low.  If you're 40 lbs heavier than him, you'll do just fine by getting squared up on his *** and popping.

  10. Pretend the target you are hitting is actually beyond the guy you are about to tackle. All the Greats do it that way. You are then exploding into a tackle instead of finishing up at the point of impact. You are actually driving him backwords with your inertia. Hit thru the guy, to a point behind him and you will be feared as a defender.

Technique is everything.  Head up, shoulders into the numbers, and wrap hard with your arms - whip action around and into the body of the ball carrier at the same moment you're crushing his numbers.  In close range situations, drive slightly up to take the runner's traction away and then drive him to the ground, shoulders first (this can cause fumble opportunities) and then plant yourself right on top of him.  This wear's the runner down.

    If you hit from the side, the "numbers" would be a few inches below the shoulder.  This is the center of balance for most situations and when you wrap tight and hard at the moment of impact, it takes them right off their feet.

    The most important thing with tackling (beyond the above) is to be certain to run THROUGH the runner.  Don't stop your feet at the moment of impact (like hitting a wall) - be sure and move THROUGH the runner.  This adds tremendous power.  It leaves the ball carrier feeling like they've been hit by a train.  

    A great way to practice this is with a friend or assistant coach holding a large blocking dummy.  Come at it full speed, head up, and wrap your arms hard at the moment your pads/chest touch the dummy, then make it your goal to move just as fast THROUGH the dummy as you hit it - and drive it for 5 or more yards.  You do this, and people will remember you long after you knock them off their feet.  Nothing motivates a team more than a consistent big hitter.

    Never duck your head on hits - it is a primary cause of serious injury.  

    Never let go of a runner. If you can't get to him to knock him off his feet, and he wants to dance around like a chicken in a barnyard, it will only be a second or two until one of your teammates cleans his clock.  

  13. in order to hit harder you need to use your whole body starting with your legs.  when making a good form tackle you need to start low with bend in your knee's and explode up  it should be one fluid motion to get the most impact. It all starts in the legs and finish high with your head up aiming for the numbers.

  15. Honestly, get that fire going inside you. think of something that makes you really angry or something along those lines. I've had people tell me that I suck at sports and would never succeed and it has just driven me even harder to proove them wrong.

  16. The first thing is you can't be scared to get hurt. You need to throw your body around like a maniac. You need to missile you body at you target and lower you shoulder and then just drive.

  19. Well there are a few tips I have.   Mental: You have to really work your self up for a tackle. WHen I played I felt like I was in a controlled phsycotic rage. You need to be mentally worked up for it. Angle: If you can put yourself at an angle and take him out you can clean his clock. That way your full force is given to him. If you hit him head on then your forces cancel out and the greater force will over seed. Wieght: if you have more weight you will have more mass to give more of a hit. Best way to do this is work out a lot and eat alot of protien. The muscle will also help you generate more force. When you hit someone you want to hit them low in the center of their body so all the force is absorbed. That area would be the hips. Finally is teh most important, technique. You need to align your spine and it will direct your force better. Think of how you would try and pusha car to get the most force. And most importantly, wrap up on the guy and plant your shoulder or chest into the guy, this will transfer the most energy and insure a atackle. You want to follow thorugh and stay on the ground with your feet and run through the tackle. And as you make contact, thrust with your legs giving a burst of force.
