How to hook an old Sharp portable cd stereo system to TV or PC as extra speakers?

I have an old Sharp CD stereo system that I would like to use as an additional speaker for my TV or PC. Problem is, the only external connection I could see is a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack at the back. The radio still works though the CD and tape decks' history. It has no AUX function/jack or MIC out either. I remember my brother before connected our PC to his stereo when we were kids using a Y-connector with the stereo's LINE IN jack, though I don't know if its possible using a headphone jack. Any suggestions? Its too bad coz the stereo is just lying around here in the house and I'd like to use either for my PC or TV.

  1. You can always try with the same cable your brother use. Personally, I think that jack is for output of sound rather than input, but you can try it out. It's not like you can damage it like that anyways, it just wouldn't output any sound. Depending on where you buy the cable, or the quality you buy it at, it's usually less than $20...or ask your brother for the cable if he still has it. To test it beforehand if it's a output jack or a input jack, just plug headphones into it. If sound comes out of it while you're on the radio, then it's a output jack, if you hear nothing, then it MIGHT be a input jack, or just be broken. Try!
