How to hook up a new aftermarket head unit with a wire harness?

Just a quick question because its my first time installing a head unit. When installing the head unit, if I have a wire harness the harness splices with the deck not the car wires right? Just want to make sure.

Yes an adapter kit saves a lot of work and does`nt damage  the original wires if you sell the car and want to install the original back in . But just in case, I included a link in case your radio is linked to the alarm or is an older car and you get stumped with the wiring. Remember to tape all those wires securely. Nothing worse than a short .
