Question:

How to hook up another cable box.?

We are currently using a charter converter box for our cable. I would like to have the same benefits of the box (HBO, SHOWTIME, etc) in another room of my house. How would I go about getting another one (box) and hooking it up so I can avoid the monthly fee?

I realize that this may be illegal and am not interested in a spiel on why I shouldn't do this. Thank you for your answers in advance.

  1. Technically, all you should have to do is phsically get a cable line to the second bedroom and call charter up and ask for a second reciever.

With the recent changes in regulations, if you subscribe to cable, the subscription is good for the "entire house". Adding boxes may incur an extra small fee for the box rental, but you will not have to pay any kind of second-tv fees for your movie channels.

If you want to avoid paying any kind of fees, well, you can always split the output of the box to the other room, but then both people would have to watch the same channel.

  2. it's not illegal if the cable is in your house

just get a spliter and run new cable to the other tv

  3. The other two answerers are right. There is no way to currently own your own cable box and have it hooked up and working without paying for it. You are allowed to get the programming on every box in the house at no extra charge, but you do have to rent the box.

You'll see some for sale on eBay, and you can buy them pretty cheap, but when you call in to have it activated, they will tell you no, and inform you that the box you purchased was stolen (as they own them all).

Now, there is a movement afoot to allow you to own your own box and rent a cablecard to authorize the box. However, it hasn't been fully implemented yet :(.

I think they are only $5/mo to rent though...
