I just recently got a brand new sharp aquos tv.

There was a mixup with the deliverer, and for some reason he cant hook up our cable with it, so we have no cable.

Can anyone tell me how to do this by myself?

I have a comcast tv box, if that helps

  1. Well, you have an extra RF cable right?

    Of course you do....

The cable coming from the floor or the wall connects onto the "RF IN" or Cable IN (put)  and the TV is connected onto the Box's OUT TO TV and the other end is connected to ANT IN  or Ant 1 or Ant 2 or Cable or VHF/UHF input......

Then you set your TV set to channel 3.....

And if you get snow on the TV set, you look on your remote for the Ant button and press it until you get a picture. But it's easier if you have multiple INPUTS to set the TV channel, then CONNECT the cable to the TV set and listen for sound...Good sound, intelligible conversation !

Then you read the manual, while you're watching TV.....

And you should see if you have an HDMI connector on the back of your CABLE and TV sets....

Because once you verify that....YOU CAN GET the best picture to your TV set that you can possibly get !!

And if you bought HD channels, you can now recieve HD to your TV set, using the HDMI connector   OR the Component (5 wire) connectors.

Now it it's too hard to deal with,  CALL your CABLE COMPANY and get them to your home....

A good cable guy, will offer an HD BOX if you have a STANDARD Low DEF box, and come out to your home with COMPONENT OR HDMI cables FREE of charge !

    Less work for you.....

But for now, doing the RF hookup will get you low def picture NOW.....not 4 days from now.

Isn't that what you want? Now instead of later?

Oh, by the way....I have seen low def connections made several times by Cable installers, and my customers (and I ) are surprised they didn't go HD...

And once I connected them properly and walked them thru the setup, they are amazed by the picture they get, and how long they have been paying for HD and NOT getting HD....

I guess what I'm saying is, You Get What You Pay For !

And if you have any problems, just get out the instruction manual and read the chapter "Installing your TV"...It has pictures .

  2. It depends on what kind of cable service you have. If you don't get any premium channels like HBO, etc, you MAY be able to just connect the cable wire directly to the RF input of the TV. This may be labelled ANT or Cable. These types of cable systems are called Clear (i.e. unscrambled) QAM. You don't even need the box for these.

If you do need the box, you need to connect the best quality ouput of the box to your TV. These are, in best to worst order:

HDMI, Component, DVI, S-Video and composite. Only the first three will give you an HD picture, and then only if you have subscribed to HD service (and the box is HD).
