  1. I am holding the Repair Manual for your engine in my hand. The wiring diagram says.

The top Left S goes to the Choke. Should be a green wire.

The top Right M goes to the Magneto. Should be a black wire.

The bottom Left M is the return wire from the Magneto. It also should be a black wire.

The bottom Right S goes to the Starter Solenoid. It should be a white wire.

  2. Try this link, it should explain alot about ignition switches and wiring including a color diagram with OMC (Johnson, Evinrude, etc) motors:

  3. The original "Fat Fifty" what a treasure. Any way the ignition is magneto. So you will have to ground it to stop the motor. There may be an electric choke on it. That should go "on" when you push in on the key switch. Next is the temp horn -which is a grounding circut. That should go to a buzzer. Don't forget the starter wire. I forgot what the S M S M post means but you can find out with a meter. You will probably get that answer in future posts. To use the meter-switch to ohms (disconnect the battery) and hook to one of the posts. With the key off -check the other posts till one lights up- that will be the ignition if it goes out when you turn on the ignition. Now hold the key over to the starter position find the post that lights up and that will be the starter (Some of the original equipment had a push button seperate from the key switch-  Some used it for the choke.)   Hope that helps.
