  1. Daniel K is correct.  What you have is a monitor.

You need to convert the RF (radio frequency) signal on the coax cable to baseband audio video. You do this with a demodulator.

The cheapest way is with an OLD VCR, cable box with Audio -Video Output or DVD with Audio Video output.  With a VCR hookup the cable up to the antenna in of the VCR.  Take the Video/Audio output of the VCR to the TV.  Yellow Video- Red (right) audio,  White (left) audio.  Tune the channels with the VCR..   Make sure that the channel setup on the VCR is set to the cable or CATV setting.

Broadcast TV (Over the air) uses the same frequencies as cable for channels 2 -13 after that they are different so the VCR must be told it should be in the cable mode or you won't get all the channels.

They make consumer demodulators with remote control available at Radio Shack or other electronic stores but a VCR will do the same thing and they are available at flea markets and garage sales everywhere.

  2. The modulator is just the opposite of what you need.  Modulators convert audio/video to a channel 3 or 4 RF signal.

It sounds like you have a TV monitor with no tuner since it has no cable input.  What you need is a VCR or DVD recorder with a cable tuner.  Or just a cable box from the cable company.  It will have A/V outputs.

  3. What tv do you have that doesn't have an F connector (antenna) input connection? You can't convert from coax to component. You can get a coax to S-video if you have S-video inputs on the tv. My thought is that your missing something or the TV is actually just a monitor (in which case you'd need a cable or satellite box).

  4. Assuming no breaks in the Co-Axial, and that the RF Converter/Modulator you purchased is in working order it shouldn't run into any issues.

However it does sound like you have a very long cable run there. What is the length? There are standards to running Co-Axial cable and a maximum length to carry signal.

Typically a single S/PDIF Digital cable run should not exceed 15m (50feet) without a repeater. This is in an ideal environment without excess EMI such as might be provided by a machine-shop or server room.
