  1. If your TV has an "audio line output", connect that using red, white RCA cables to an unused input on your receiver.  You will then need to change the input on the receiver to the one that comes from the TV using the remote.

If your TV does not have an audio output, then you may be able to get an audio output from your cable box or VCR and just connect that to an unused input on the receiver.

  2. Depends on what else you have and what connection choices your receiver has. Do you have a cable or sat box?

Assuming you have no cable box, the tv audio out hooks up the to receiver audio in (usually labeled TV in on the back of the receiver). It will be red and white rca jacks. You may need to set the tv to output a fixed signal (most do this automatically but some don't).

If you have a cable box, you can do it as above but you can also go directly from the box to the receiver. This would require you to use the receiver all the time for sound.

If your cable box, tv, and receiver have hdmi inputs then you can use those for video and audio. If you have optical outs/ins then that would be a better connection that the rca cables.

Really need more info to give you a good ansewer.
