I have a stereo, Comcast, DVD recorder, and TV. I want to be able to record movies on the DVD player from my TiVO, or straight from cable how do I run the cables?

  1. Hook the best possible output of the TiVO ( hopefully s-video or component video) to the input of your DVD recorder.   This should allow you to record from your TiVO.  (does TiVO have macrovision encoding?)

For recording from cable, if your DVD recorder has a tuner, buy a cable splitter and hook up the tv signal coax to the splitter.  One cable goes to the tv and the other goes to the DVD recorder.

When you are going to record you just select  tuner or video input and you should be all set.
