i was thinking on buying an x-box 360 and getting live for it, the thing is i would play it in my basement, where my cable box is. so could i hook the ethernet cable to the cable box or do i have to run it all the way up a floor to my main computer? If so how would i do that? run it through the floor into my router?

  1. To go online for X-Box live, you will have to connect to the internet. That said, how you connect depends on how you receive your internet. If you have cable internet, you would have to connect to the cable modem. If it has only a single LAN jack, you would have to get a switch or hub if you wanted to have the X-Box and your computer hooked up at the same time. Otherwise, you can plug in whichever you want use and leave the other unplugged. If you have a connection over the phone, you should have router. If it has more than one LAN jack, plug the X-box into an open port and you're good. If it has only one port, you would need a switch or hub, just like with a cable modem.

As far as connecting the two, there are several possibilities. You can run a CAT5 line from the X-box to the switch/hub/router, or you can get a network bridge, something like this. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

You can also go wireless, there are a multitude of ways to do that. Hope this helps.
