I was new into the whole parakeet thing. When i took my parakeet home i didn't let it get used to its surrondings. I immediatly took it out and played with it.I am afriad now that the parakeet will never learn to trust me.Becuase i may have handled it wrong and scared it.Every morning though (i leave the cage door open) It hops out for about an hour.i always leave the cage on the floor so it can hop back in whenever it wants to.I can get near the cage but once i put my finger near him, he freaks out.How can i get my parakeet to trust me and eventually finger train him? Thanks

  1. You people know nothing about birds!!!!

They are a wonderful animal & when they have there owners trust they are amazing creatures.  I have 2 ringneck parrots. Both hand-raised.   Now that they have my trust, they give me kisses on the lips without biting, talk, and come out of the cage without flying around (trained not to fly, wings not clipped)  Don't clip his wings, he will hate you for it. Sometimes will break the trust..

You need to slowly get the bird to know you.  Every morning & every night (more if you have the time) give him kisses (the noise) and say pretty boy, hello or the same type of words day in and day out.  He will get to know your voice and will expect you to talk when in the routine.

After he is settled, introduce your hand very slowly and touch the top of his head and stroke down behind his neck.

They love this..  Now my birds are used to it, when I walk through the door at night, they both dance to me as I am there partner, I feed them & then let them out to play.

Once you start a routine, you cannot stop. They will fret.

Good Luck. Hope I was some help...

  2. Sell him and buy a hand-tamed Budgie from a breeder.

No offense to you, of course, but will these people ever learn?! Bahahahhaha! EVERYONE buys Budgies first and then realizes they are not pet material and were raised in cruel conditions.

    =/

  3. first of all what do you even want to trust a parakeet???

and its just an animal ???

the parakeet just wants a owner that is nice and feeds him food!!!!

and a parakeet is just a animal!!!!!

the parakeet is a animal it cant trust!!!!!!

    i think so????

  4. You just have to let him get to know his surroundings first. let him settle in then try and coax him to your finger/hand with spray millet. the bird just needs to know that you ain't gonna hurt it. it takes time and patience, but it all pays off in the end.

  5. I've heard of people to tame them they take them to an unfamilar place so the only familar thingto the bird is you so the bird will go to you.

Lots of pet parrots are scared of hands because they know that hands can grab them.

If he associates good things with you he will like you better. Like if he gets treats when you come.

Take taming him in little steps. A big step the hard work you did backswards.

Their are lots of books on taming parrots in the libarys which are a good read.

    Good luck

  6. let it get used to it for 7 days it will start acting natural playing with toys eating and drinking and it will soon learn to trust you soon , birds like to be hung in high not drafty areas away from heaters, fans always make sure any fan is off if it out of its cage it can kill it if it hits it the fan.for about a week put your hand in the other side of the cage (were the bird is not at) talk to him for about 10-20 minutes a day and feed him fruits and veggies outta your hand every day after you get his trust and start playing with him heres how to finger train , take a pole or stick and hold it up to him he should jump on it put a glove on your hand and try to get him to go on your finger or hand he might glide to his cage but keep doing this uuntile he gets on your finger it will only take a few times so its not hard work good luck!hope this info helped you!
