  1. Leave them alone

  2. Treat them equally with the other citizens of the country...and since they have been marginalised for hundreds of years previously, it'll be better to give them some reasonable economic & mental support consistently perhaps over the next 50 years, perhaps?

  3. Great question.

If I were a member of the Australian government, I'd first round up some top policy-makers and we'd all go to live in a few aboriginal communities for a while (if we could find any that would accept us, that is).  Then we'd go back to work and make changes.  However, I am most definitely not a member of the Australian government, and I am certainly not in any way an Australian governmental policy-maker.  So, I might try to get someone like that to do just that (at least one anyway, who could hopefully then go back and influence their peers).

Also, increasing awareness of the issues with non-Aboriginals could help -- if enough people are motivated to create change, then change WILL happen.  Unfortunately, the Aboriginal population is likely dwarfed by the non-Aboriginal population, and modern societies and governments most often operate on 'majority rules,' so it might require some non-Aboriginal assistance.

I could go on and on with this one ...

  4. you could protect their environment... and yes... leave them alone...

  5. I dont agree they should be left alone. They should HAVE been left alone 300 years ago, but they werent.  They have now lost their land and their ways and and not been given anything for that either. There has to be a way to help them integrate more fully into society (respecting their traditions) or at the very least undo the damage caused by imposing our "civilised" ways on them. Educational systems have to be devised that agree with their traditional ways while allowing them the possibility of surviving in the modern world. Housing needs to be adapted to suit their needs.
