Children that young naturally have a very short attention span.  To help increase it sit down with them often and play and try to keep their attention and read stories to them as that prepares them for sitting still for story time.  Just don't expect a child that young to sit for long because that just isn't natural for them.  I would say at 1 1/2 years old maybe 30-45 minutes max.

You can't improve the concentration of a one and half year old.  Their little brains aren't developed enough.  Your one and half year old will grow and develop at his/her own pace.

It depends what you are trying to teach them!  Give more info!!  I taught my 12 month old son how to go pee in two days!  But that really requires only a few seconds of concentration at a time.  The only thing that will actually lengthen their attention span is age!
