How to improve discipline in schools?

BRING BACK SPANKING. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

I agree with the poster above me but I see a different side to this.

Of course kids are going to be bad at school when they KNOW the school will not disclipline them!

You can't TELL me that schools DO punish the kids, if they did all the c**p in schools would not be happening, or it would be greatly diminished.

I know that most parents DON"T want the schools to disclipline their kids  and this is one reason why schools DON"T want to punish the kids, fear of lawsuits from parents.

But the schools should say ok, you don't want us to dislcipline your kids then keep them out of our schools!

Kids should not be at schools if they are not going to be respectful and cherish the free gifts that are given to them there (learning and education)

Everyone is saying spanking is wrong. Well, what ever is taking it's place is NOT working!!

Another reason schools do not disclipline kids is because if they did they would not get money from NCLB.

How many times have you read questions on this answers board from teachers asking HOW to make the kids behave!

I ALWAYS answer  - follow the schools disclipline policy.

Which most of the teachers come back and say  the administrators don't back them up, and don't follow thru on their own legal disclipline policies.

Like I said earlier, OF COURSE kids are going to be bad when they know schools aren't going to punish them!

YES, it IS the parents fault, they SHOULD teach them to be good. BUT, the SCHOOL should teach them to be good AT SCHOOL!  

That would be the same as a parent not making their child do homework because he's not at school, right??

Why should schools say the parents need to make the kids be good at school when they (the school) don't MAKE the kids be good while they are there??

Schools USE to punish the kids... what happened?

And schools can NOT use the excuse 'because PARENTS don't make them mind'.

Well, YOU can make them MIND while they are AT SCHOOL.

There have been SO MANY TIMES I have heard of stories of kids being really bad at schools and the parents are NEVER informed of their child being victimized at school.

WHY?? I'll tell you why -- the schools don't want the parents to find out that something bad happened to their kid so they wont' get sued.

But this is crazy, don't they have enough sense to figure out when the parent learns what happened, this will make them want to sue EVEN MORE !?!?!

beatings...random beatings...people will never step out of line if they think they are going to get cracked in the dome...

no, seriously the discipline in schools will not improve until discipline in the home improves...most kids that are a problem at school show the same negative behaviors at home...unfortunately we live in an era where many parents are not fit to do the job, either because they are too young or did not have an appropriate model in their youth...i know where i teach many of the parents are walked all over by their kids...i have a parent of one of my 6th graders begging me for ideas on how to get the kid to go to bed before 2 am...are you kidding me?

Whoa! Bad Ju-ju guys.  Improve discipline, get the parents involved and make a difference LONG before the students get into your classroom.
