Hey, so I just brought a 2004 jeep 4.7l v8. I know with the gas prices i should have gone with the inline 6 but this jeep only had 15,000 miles on it, so like new for only 8,000 so I couldn't pass it up. What can i do to improve if any mpg. Anything i can buy, maybe a new muffler or anything. What you think. Thanks so much.

  1. Trade it in for a Toyota....

Didn't you make the connection between 2004+15k miles+ 4.7 liter?

Bet the previous owner was pleased to dump that gas guzzler on you!

Your main problem is not just the big V8, fine tuning might squeeze another couple of mpg, you have the unsolvable problem of a machine with the aerodynamics of a breezeblock, that sits high so also gets drag under the car from all the axles, tie rods and mechanical bits dangling down.

  2. I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE V8 4.7 AND I JUST PUT AN K&N COLD AIR INTAKE AND PULSTAR PULSE PLUGS THERE EXPENSIVE , LIKE 25 EACH BUT ITS REALLY WORTHED I RECOMMENDED YOU WOULD REALLY SEE THE DIFFERENCE

  3. Improving your gas mileage won't be as successful as writing your congressman to increase refinery capacity to drop the prices. Really.

You might get a few miles per gallon more by a few tweaks, such as an improved exhaust header, air intake system, etc. The factory has done about the best that could be expected with a 4,500 pound vehicle with lots of wind resistance and drivetrain friction.

Bargain or not, if you need better mileage, a 1600cc four cylinder in a car weighing less than 2500 pounds is the better answer.

  4. i want to know where you found that jeep i paid 16,000 for my 04 V-8 with 48,000miles gas mileage is not all that bad my all time best is 19.3mpg @70mph highway you got a great jeep anyway i run mobil clean 5000 oil and i felt more power and about 1-2 mpg increase  but a exhaust will help a intake will also oh and the inline 6 motor dont get all that better mpg my mom gets 21mpg highway and 16-17mpg city i get almost that for a V-8

  5. okay I just watched a documentary on this stuff. one make sure that u keep your oil and filters changed on regular schedule make sure that u are running street tires instead of offroad tires on it. Keep it clean good rule of thumb is if it dont need to be in the car take it out no need to carry around dead weight

  6. put the thin tires on.

disguard everything that you don't need like every seat but the drivers.
