  1. talk 2 him very often show him the things & name them 2 him.

  2. Talk to him like an adult.  Don't talk baby-talk with him.  This only fosters bad english habits.  Read books together.  Buy cd's with recorded stories for them to use on their own.  My children have a V-Smile video game, it's very educational and a lot of fun for them so they don't mind spending the time playing it.

  3. I am going to assume you mean environment, like moving to different schools or home..(atmosphere could also mean changes in the air pressure??)

The reading is vital but I am going to add, please find a quiet place, without t.v, music or other children distractions. Ask questions about the pictures, have him re-tell the story in his own words. Accept his errors or different telling of the story.

While you are driving, point out things you see. While you are waiting in line ask him questions about things you see around the store.

We get so busy telling kids what to do or talking on the cell phone or turning on the t.v while we make dinner that we don't interact as much as parents did long ago. Try getting him involved with making a meal. You would be surprised at how many students I have who don't know the names of household utensils and appliances!

  4. I'm not an expert, but I'd suggest reading to him...simple books with words he can easily learn to identify. Work phonetically; can't beat it for a good English foundation. I'd get flash cards, stick a few in my pocket or purse, then go for a walk ,preferably, or a ride, and make it a fun challenge for him to identify objects that begin with A,B,C,etc. Give him stickers, temporary tats, stars on a chart, lots of encouragement, and big hugs for effort.

  5. He's confused about language due to atmosphere changes?

Did you have trouble with English, or do you not speak English as a first language?

Kids who are learning 2 languages at the same time often show delays in early learning, then speed up later on.

However, if that's not the case, talk about things he's interested in. Read books and watch shows and ask him to use his words to tell you what he likes.

Also, I don't know if you've gotten him evaluated yet, but his school system has to help him out. Ask his teachers.

  6. Are you sure the child doesn`t have aspergers syndrome.People with aspergers have communication problems, and problems with social skills. Also called high functioning autism.I have never heard of language problems because of atmosphere changes.People with aspergers may prefere to be alone alot.

  7. Go to your local school district and say you would like him evaluated for Speech and Language.  If they find him eligible they will provide free therapy.  In the meantime, give him lots of opportunity to speak to adults and peers.  ASk him to verbalize answers and don't respond if he points, or uses other physical prompts.  Good Luck
