How to improve my mk5 golf 1.4?

Hi, i own an mk5 1.4 vw golf. Due to being 18 i couldnt afford the insurance on a larger engine. I am wanting to improve performance. I am no mechanic, have basic knowledge but no experience with cars. I have been researchin as much as possible on how to install and understand performance parts. Looking for advice on what parts would fit, how to install and maybe pictures of the mk5 golf 1.4 engine with tags of what everything is. Thanks for reading, DC

Wait until you can afford the insurance on a Mk5 GTI, and trade in on a good second-hand one.

Don't waste your time trying to make the 1.4 a sports car, it's anything but.

All the usual 'ricer' upgrades like a cold air intake and big-bore exhaust will achieve nothing but a noisier, still slow car.
