  1. smacking your lil bro over the head a few hundred times.

  2. start with your hand back behind your head and your dominant foot foward. Toss the bass into the air and bring your arm all of the way back and hit the ball with your palm. Make sure that you follow through with your serves (step into them, it gives you much more power). NEVER NEVER NEVER hit the ball with a fist, it may get there but it wont be as powerful as a serve with your palm. Also you may want to tape your fingers, it protects them from jams and esures that you use your palm and not fingers for the serve, good luck on your serves!

  3. One thing overlooked is where the hand actually hits the ball when you serve. The ball can actually be englished. Striking it to high on the ball drives it down also.

  4. Here's some tips for serving:

1st thing- Practice your throwing.  If you have a really good throw, chances are you'll have a really good serve.  Make sure when you are throwing, your elbow is above your shoulder (not dropped down like a shotput).  Also, make sure when you are throwing you step with your opposite foot.

2nd thing- You have to have a REALLY firm wrist and big hand. Practice hitting the ball in your opposite hand as hard as you can, only using your palm. You don't want your fingers to touch the ball, b/c they are not strong enough to push the ball over the net. ONLY use your palm.

3rd thing- Practice your tosses. Your toss should go straight up from your hand, just a few inches in front of your head. When you toss, the ball should land just in front of your foot.

4th thing-  You should take only 1 small step when you serve.  If you are taking multiple steps, or even 1 big step, you can become off balance and your toss might not be in the correct spot.  Start with your right foot slightly in front of your left, but have all of your weight back on your left foot.  Toss the ball straight up and take a little step with your right foot.

5th thing-  Hold your follow-through to where you want the ball to go.  If you want to serve to the left back corner, freeze your hand to that spot after you serve.

There you go, work on those 5 things and you will be a much better server!!

ps...to strengthen your arm, try push-ups and tricep dips.  Simple body weight exercises like these really help your strength and you can do them right at home.
