I average about an 82 per round but I basically broke down and just began using my irons off the box. I am playing some serious golf tuesday against some really good guys that I want to beat. I need to be able to him my driver bc these guys are excellent with there first shot and these are long par 4's.

  1. The last thing you want to do off the tee is become gun shy or afraid of your driver.  Your confidence level will go south real quick. A driver is there for a reason just as every other club in your bag is. What you have to ask yourself is what is happening to me on the tee with my driver. If you are scoring in the low 80's, I'm sure you are swinging the club very decently. You are anticipating a round of golf with some good players on a course with some long par fours. My guess is this. Maybe, a little nervous, but mainly you are probably swinging way to hard. A driver should hit at about 80% of your full power. Your tempo will be better. You will also square up your driver at impact and be much more under control.  You will also find the ball in the fairway more often with more distance than you might think. More important, when playing a round of golf, make sure you pay attention to your game and not watch or be intimidated what other players are doing.

    Hope this might help.

  2. Above poster is right. I had put my driver away for like 2 weeks using only a 2 wood and 3 wood off the box. Went back to the local pro for a lesson and just like that, back to hitting the driver!!!

For me, it was a balance and weight transfer issue. I kept slicing and when I felt balanced kept pulling the ball big time. Now... right down the middle with a controled fade and when need be, a nice low straight shot or draw for added roll!

I LOVE MY DRIVER - and just a month ago, I HATED IT WITH A PASSION!

  3. Go to your local course, pull out your wallet and take a LESSON!

  4. I went a year slicing the ball right. THen fixed it, and hit dead center 300 yards. The 1st 4 rounds this year I have been shanking them left.

Aside from taking a lesson, look at stance, posture, grip, weight transfer, open or closed clubface, aiming. Once you

figure out what you are doing it is all the more easier to fix.

It is very tought to fix a problem we can not see.

Even hitting 1/2 way decent drive with a driver, is usually better then a iron out of the box.
