alright, so i am 14 years old, and i don't run track but i play soccer and am pretty active, and i'm really interested in running for competition. I can currently run a 6:15 mile, and recently ran a 5K with a time of 22:02. I would in the future like to run a sub five thirty and eventually a sub five mile, and improve my endurance as well. Is this in the realm of possibility? How long will it take? and How do i do it?

  1. yes, these times are realistic if you were to train for running.

you could probably reach your goals in one or two years if you were to concentrate on running.

You will have to train for running, not soccer.

Distance running requires lots of work and running all year.

  2. its going to take a few years alot of hard work but it is certainly possible....i had similar times at that age and have improved to run a 5:20 mile ...what a sense of accomplishment

  3. Right after you read what I am typing, RUN!  Seriously, if you are reading this right now, RUN!  You'll be amazed how much you improve.  Run 3-6 times a week for about 30-60 minutes.  That's what I do.  I'm 13 and run the mile in 5:58 and the 5k in 21:00.

  4. okay when i was 14 i ran a 5:55 mile and was always in the 20s for 5ks, so i was right around your times. I havent even improved the most on my team and i ran a 4:57 when i was 16 and a 17:48 5k now im 17 and have ran a 4:45 and am planning on running a sub 16:30 5k this week, and like i said i havent even imporved the most on my team so it is defiantly possible for you to b running under 5 and alot faster 5k sometime soon

umm how to do it, making running more important to you than soccer will defiantly help. join cross country in the fall, work hard do what your coachs tell u dont slack off too much. and defiantly run year round dont let your first run of the year be on the first day of track practice

  5. I think you could run a sub 5:00 mile by the time you are a high school senior. It will take a lot of hard work, but it will be very rewarding when you reach your goal. There are many good sites on the internet (I like runner's world) that give advice on training for both endurance and speed. Just make sure you don't overtrain!

  6. if u follow this program it works REALLY REALLY well
