  1. try building up your leg muscles by doing calf raises, squats and wall sits. once your muscles are stronger, try your approach but swing up your arms faster.

  2. I agree w/ Sunnydaze. Converting your horizontal momentum into vertical momentum is a large part of jumping higher. Ask your coach for help. First, make sure your shoes are tied firmly to your feet. You want to approach the net by taking a quick step and then a hop up to the net and bend your legs quite a bit, lean forward, while at the same time swinging your arms back behind your back pointing them to the sky and then swinging your arms forward and straight up into the air at the same time you are jumping up (all of this must be done in one fluid motion to take advantage of the momentum). By doing this, you are able to use your momentum and body weight in order to jump higher so that you can get a good spike. Also, just practicing jumping regularly or a few times during the day will help to build the leg muscle fibers. Have your coach watch you every now and then to make sure you have the right approach and technique that I described above. Remember, practice makes perfect!
