  1. the best choice is drug called "piracetam" its enhace increase consumption of glucose and by the way fuel of brain so its very useful in insomnia you can full detail on wikipedia.com it give  excellent result when tested on monkies  but its not approved  by FDA but approved by BP  and since we in iraq follow british  pharacopia  so its in markets cost about 5 $ for 10 tablets.

by the way it had less side effect

  2. it depends, my uncle had severe head trauma, so much so , he had to learn everyday motor skills such as eating, drinking and speaking.

Alot of occupational therapy and time is the only cure. the brain heals itself EVENTUALLY. He still cant remember 6 monthes before the injury or 6 monthes after. Its been 18 yrs.  He didnt remember anyone or anything, he couldnt speak, eat, hold onto a pencil,..... he had to relearn everything, at a very fast pace, i might add. It wasnt like teaching a child, The more his brain injury healed, the aster he learned everyday tasks.... My prayers go out to you and your family.

    IT WILL GET BETTER!!!

  3. Hopefully time will restore all the lost functions.  49 days is not a long time.  The pressures in the skull need to be relieved through healing and then the brain can begin to restore itself.  I am sure it is scary and frustrating.  It just takes time, so try not to get too worried yet.  If he is awake that is the important thing.

Here is a good site with links to much information on head injury:

I hope it helps!  Does the boy have a good rehab doctor?  I don't know what's available in your area, but we have several good rehab doctors in our area.  Just don't let him get too active too soon.  I know from having concussions that you can get a concussion more easily the second or third time.

  4. The time alone will restore partial neurological function of the brain. In conjonction with medical treatment you should start to help to child restore motory function like holding things in hand left and alternatively  right hand. Begin with a pencil for example. Also basic activities like drinking, eating and speaking.

Here's an extras from my article about the best improvement of memory. Choose what you like to help quickly to your child.

If you will challenge your brain on daily basis, all your life, even at old age, the brain cells will continue to grow, neurons will start connecting and you'll have a healthy brain until the last your day. The more challenged daily activities you'll practice, the more connections are formed and the more brain capacity you'll benefit.. But you have to have a strategy in doing this. . Do this fun, like a child, without stress , obligation, compulsion or boring, but having in view something, to provide oxygen to your brain and a good flow of blood toward brain. How to do it ? Simple, start using all the five your senses in new ways

Also I'll give you 6 important tips to improve short term memory " If you are following the same tips more time will improve long term memory too.

1- Intellectual diet. Eat fruits, vegetables and " brain foods"{ any thing that contains Omega 3}. These are nutrients for your neurons. If you don't eat well, your brain won't work well.

2- Vitamin B complex is very important to healthy brain function It will boost your memory and reduces stress.

3- Exercises like walking, running, swinning or any form of physical exercises because these will pump oxygen to your head.

4- Use the strategy "things done" .Sit down in the morning and write a list with no more than 6 things you need to do in that day. Doing so you'll remove it from your brain and free up attention for important things.

5- Meditation. Scientifically proven way to clear your mind. Adopt a regular meditation habit and soon you'll see the benefit.

6- Clear your mind. Memory inefficiency is caused by the clutter in your mind and by the way you store information. A confused multitude of things, a disorder is an inefficient method of accessing important data.

    Supplementary quick tips:

    - Sitting in one place for awhile, shake your legs for a minute or two. It get your blood flowing to the brain, means more oxygen.

    - repetition of words, ideas, concepts and actions, with various concrete examples improves fast memory.

    - Olive oil, , high in mono-unsaturated fat, has been shown to improve memory.

    - Vinpocetine is the most powerful memory enhancer available today { it's used as a cerebral vasodilator.}

    - Good sleep is necessary for memory regain. During sleep, the hippocampus { a place in the brain where the memory is stored } becomes highly active and moves knowledge from the short-term memory to the long-term memory.

Memory is one of the integral parts of day-to-day human life. We are using it every moment consciously or not, so we perceive the world around us and able to interpret it.

    Good health to you

    and your child.

  5. How sad that a 14 year old should have to go through this kind of trauma.

Regardless of the persons age, brain haemmhorage is technically a stroke and 49 days is not a long time.

The brain is a delicate organ and when damaged in this way you can expect most improvement to happen over around three to six months, with smaller gains over the next two years.

Some damage however may be permanent, and depending on which part of the brain is damaged will depend on whether new memory can be laid down - giving rise to short term memory loss similar to dementia.

The medical team will no doubt be testing daily for signs of cognition and memory related to amnesia, and all associated neurological functions, as the results will determine the direction and intensity of treatment.

Only your medical team that has the child's individual health profile will be able to answer this question accurately, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

    Good luck.
