  1. if you need to Code it, try to find a javascript code, there is a bunch in the web.

    if you need to include one from the web i encourage you to use :

    hitstats.com or just go in google.com and type : free Counter or Free hits counter .

    You creat a account and they provide you a code to insert in your web page.

  2. Unless you really want other visitors to see how much traffic your site is getting...and to be honest, there's no value in it. I would recommend Google Analytics.

    All you have to do is add two lines of code to the end of each page, and then you can check all kinds of statistics by logging into your Google Analytics account.

    It's not the "simplest" solution, but with a little effort on your part, I think you'll see it's worth your while.
