I have a pet rat,and she is really cute and never bites hard or has bitten hard before,i have taught her two tricks, how to climb up a rope and how to steal things like bananas. At the moment i am playing her classical music which apparantly helps to increase the intelligence. But it isn't working. How do you get rats to come when you call them?

  1. just make a sound often then when she finally does come give her a treat for coming or onstead of a sound call her name

  2. Alas, what every pet owner wants their pet to do:  Come when they call them!

While I've heard a few different methods, one seems to come up more than others.

What you'll need to do is set a neutral environment.  Pull out a card table and set it up in your room.  Don't put anything on the table at first.  Place her at one end and stand at the other with treats on the floor within reach.  Call her and coax her over with a treat.  Keep setting her back at one end until she seems to be coming to you for food.  Add some distractions.  Put some of her toys up there and see if you can still get her to come.  Next you can try getting her to come to you from her cage, your bedroom floor, etc.  Just make sure you're patient and never use negative reinforcement.  That won't make any sense to her and it'll only discourage her.

Now to raise her IQ, I'm not quite sure.  I'm not sure where classical music came in, but I'm sure that only works on people.  I don't think rats really think about what they hear unless it's a predator or their master.

Though I thoroughly believe that exercise helps make any living thing smarter.  It gets the blood flowing, keeps the mind alert, and it keeps your body in good condition.  You might want to consider taking it on an agility course.  Sounds like fun, eh?  I found a neat website with fairly cheap items you could probably purchase.  Go ahead, take a look:

I hope I was able to help you!  Good luck training her <3
