Well, I joined the cross-country team at my school. I'm not the slowest runner, but I am in the slowest time group (10 minutes per mile) although I am the fastest in my time group (if that makes sense). It's only my second day of practice (which we run for 2 hours in the morning from 6-8) and I am more than determined to get faster. At least to like 8 minutes per mile would be fantastic ! But how would I go about doing this ? I just don't know ... Please give advice or tips ! Thank you !

  1. When I was going through Basic Training for the Army I found sprints to be the best method to improve quickly. I went from a 16:35 two mile to a 13:09 in nine weeks. I would suggest 60 sec. of sprint and 120 sec. of slow jogging. I would then repeat this until you hit your desired distance. I usually do 2 - 3 miles.

  2. I think that you should day by day try to go 10 seconds faster and after enough practice of 10 seconds faster, then you will eventually get to your desired time. That is how I am able to run faster.

Also, what I do is think of somebody on my team who is a little better than me. Throughout the race I try to keep up with them or stay as close to them as possible. I have recently been able to run a faster mile by keeping up with someone who is better than I am.

  3. Since you have just began, your speed will keep increasing as you advance. For now maintain your speed and with no time you will do really great. it takes a lot of patience to increase your speed coz your body needs to adjust first.

  4. i am in cross country too just work hard everyday and push yourself and you should improve you time i use to run a 12 min mile now i run a 7 min mile  and good luck
