  1. That first answer sounds good.  I was going to suggest putting chicken pens around the trees.  My grandfather did this and his appletrees not only produced more and larger apples, but he had lots of eggs to sell as well.

  2. i live on the east coast of the US but  organically manures work very well espically chicken manure  a synthetic fertilizer would be calcium nitrate

a way to get the fertizelier straight to the roots i found would to be sticking a  small metal pipe and making it go right to the center of the roots of the tree then you can pour water or fertizler right to the tree instead of having some of it wasted on the grassy ground cover

if you just started growing trees and they are small / or if the tempature is low there coverethe trees with clear plastic its like a personal greenhouse and the base of the tree is black plastic

well either way you go with fertizling you have to be careful because of such things as contamination of water near by like if your near a well, or stream be careful

(calicum nitrate can cominate up to 5 times more than orgnaic fertizler)

an irragating system  works very well is slighty expenisive but worth it over long run

usually a 5 pound  (2.3kg)bage of calcium nitrate needs 100 gallons (380 liters) of water if fertilzing striaght to the roots if your sparying i think about 300-400 (1135-1500 liters gallons for a 5 pound (2.3kg) bag
