Question:

How to inspire my Students in English?

I've just been given the unique opportunity to teach something of my own choice for the next two weeks to my year 9 (KS3) students, since we finished our last unit early. I work in an all boys school and I want to teach them something that will inspire them and make them enjoy English (That isn't football related). Any suggestions on a topic, or a url where I can find an interesting unit? I've tried Teachit but most of the resources are very dry.

  1. have them read, something like 'of mice and men' or 'the outsiders' 'tom sawyer' 'white fang' they all involve boys doing boy things, and have a message behind them.

  2. My favorite short story to teach to boys is Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl.  There is an Alfred Hitchcock Presents version of the story that you might be able to find.  (I bought mine on Ebay, but it is not on youtube)  Anyway, the story involves a woman who clubs her husband to death with a frozen leg of lamb and then serves it to the police.

It's funny and weird and twisted; boys love it.

  3. Try to include related subjects that fit into laterature, i always enjoyed movies of a book or something that we have read. Also they to create FUN projects, things that are not to hard to do, we always had fun in out classes with that, and if its possible link English with History if thats possible which increases critical thinking to them when they notice there is a connection between history and litarature

Im in 10th grade by the way

  4. hahas. give out sweets .
