  1. Read everything I type before trying it

Pull down your 'system' tab go to 'administration' > hardware drivers

Your driver should be listed there if it's available, it will probably say 'not in use', you can check to box to use it.

Here's the problem; every time I've tried this with an ATI card, the graphics fail entirely. Chances are Ubuntu installed the best driver for your card when it installed. The proprietary drivers for ATI are glitchy at best.

  2. There currently are not any drivers for the 4870 for Ubuntu or at least not that I know of.  I am in the same boat you are.

HD 4.....  series is not supported by Linux yet.  The card should run, but the graphics will not be accelerated.

  3. Sure! I'll do better! Here's a link to a YouTube video that tells you. Then the second link shows you.

(There's a new driver for ATI!)

Edit: Don't forget to use Copy and Paste! Lot's easier than typing everything!

  4. I found the HD 4870 gpu patch at this website. Here is the direct link to the download.

If you go there from here of course you'll need the latest version of Yahoo tools but I'm sure you already have that anyway.

    Good Luck!
