Question:

How to install Office trial?

My trial version of microsoft Office 2007 expired. I removed it from my computer, then downloaded another trial version. (I'm too broke to afford the full product right now and I need it for classes). Now when I go to start up Word it will still tell me that the trial is expired. I get a screen that in the top says "Activation Wizard" and on the bottom wants me to convert. The activation Wizard doesn't do anything. If I go into options to activate I get the same screen.

What am I doing wrong? I've never had this issue before!?

  1. Microsoft Word is not free and you cannot install a trial more than once. There is a free alternative. Try Open Office, a free alternative to Microsoft Office and is completely compatible with Office programs. The program Writer included in Open Office is just like Microsoft Word.

OpenOffice.org is the leading open-source office software suite  for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages  and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

  2. Microsoft office trial version is not supposed to be re-installed on same machine. But, if you are interested in trying MS office for a little longer before you decide to buy, you can try  this. Warning: you should be computer literate and familiar with what you do, else you may mess up something else.

You may know that every software install enters a registry in machine which is not removed even after yuo uninstall software.  So try removing the registry entry by navigating to  START> RUN > Type regedit; Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then go to Software section and remove the entry.   You can find detailed steps on internet if you search for above key words.  I did not try it, but know it will surely work aand you will be able to reinstall the trial version.

Remember to take notes of what you do and take a backup of your system registry before changing it.

  3. Once the 60 day trial has expired, that's it - you can't download another 60 day trial. Most educational institutions offer Office at a considerable discount to registered students; Home & Student Edition is fairly cheap too. Your other option is to use Open Office which is free
