The setup file doesn't open and I get a message saying: this is not a win32 application. In the DVD case it says 32 and 64 bit. What do I have to do so my PC will install Vista.

  1. Why bother? After a year Vista is still a bloated piece of c**p. Stick with XP or switch to Linux or buy a Mac.

  2. leave it in your computer, turn off your computer, then turn it back on, your computer should recognize that it is an operating system upgrade and take it from there, just follow the prompts

  3. You need to boot from the disk.

    - I suggest backing up all your important files. However, unlike other versions of Windows, when you install Vista, all your old files are place in a Windows.old folder on the C: drive. But just back them up in case.

    - Start your computer with the CD in the drive, and your computer should boot from it. If it doesn't, you need to bring up the boot menu and select your CD drive, or enter the BIOS and edit the setting to make your PC boot from the CD.

That's all I need to tell you, the rest of the installation process is very easy. I don't really need to explain it.

  4. boot from it. put it in your drive, turn off comp, turn on comp, press the button for boot menu on startup probs f12 and select to boot from cd drive... then follow the wizard thru and it installs
