hi, im putting a presentation together to raise awareness for teenagers, hoping to make it globally within in next 2 years. but its a really hard topic to address to teenagers. Besides covering all the facts, and consequences of global warming.

what can i do to shock them, keep them attentive, and most important to make them think and act on this subject. thanks

  1. Make it into a video game.

  2. loo at am.rhetoric.com

  3. you have to connect with them, relate topics to today's society...bring up interesting ideas on how it can affect the future, and destroy everything they love

  4. Instead of trying to shock them, have them discover the truth and try to present that.  Teenagers are more maleable and susceptible to propaganda.  You should focus on facts.  For example, talk about the Little Ice Age and how bad things were, famine, plagues, etc.  After that, talk about how that was caused by natural phenomena.  Then talk about the Medieval Warm period and what a great time of prosperity it was and also that it wasn't caused by man.  Then talk about the cycles of climates and how they always change and how sea levels rise and fall.  Talk about how much more life survives when it warms.

  5. Well since last year the french researcher who first proposed the idea of global warming recanted saying that the data does not support the the theory  I dont buy in to it...

  6. Just bring food and they will come.

  7. try an experiment or something with food or other things that interest teens. make them involved and make it sound extremely dramatic so it will catch their attention. make it long (they like to waste class time) try a movie or something like that

    good luck!

  8. Last year my sophmore history teacher MADE us watch Al Gore's The Unconvenient Truth  I was quite annoyed with it but alot of my classmates were really involved and interested in what that sack of bones had to say. Needless to say all of us went on the internet that night to search about either more about it, or about how al gore is a liar, and what the "true" facts are. The next day we had quite the heated discussion about it. I think thats the best way.

  9. Good luck

  10. Put it on Myspace or Facebook or one of those things!!!

  11. The trouble is that even if you get their attention, most, having been raised in an internet society, will start doing research, asking questions, and will find out that Global Warming is just another of a long string of Government lies.  I would think that there biggest action on the subject would be to ask why you are bringing religion into the school system.

  12. most people respond more to animals than people sadly, so maybe highlight ranges moving too fast for animals to keep up, running out of mountan, that sort of thing. probably best to avoid polar bears tho, they have been a bit overdone lately.

positive feedback and catastrophic change between multiple steady states, are the scariest bits for me but hard to explain simply.

it happens in ecosystems too, classic case is flips between 'cod' years and 'mackerel' years.
