  1. send out monthly news letter and give out homework and have a special day for the parents to come out

  2. First, realize that there are different kinds of involvement. Not all parents are able to visit during the day, but they might be willing to come on a Saturday for a clean-up. Single parents might have trouble getting out without the kids but they might be able to make calls to the other parents from home if needed. Make sure you send home regular reports on what the group has been doing. Let them know of items they can donate for classroom use. Encourage them to send in family photos to be displayed on the wall or in a class book. Invite them to share any hobbies or skills that might interest the children or to bring in things to do with their jobs that the kids might enjoy. Send home project ideas the family can do together to make things for the classroom. Try having parent meetings right at dismissal and provide child care so the adults can meet in peace. If it's in the evening either provide a light supper or have a covered dish. If they can meet without going home first they might find it easier. Hope this helps!

  3. give papers home

  4. Ask for items;

    Old Halloween costumes for Home Center

    Ask for Art materials

    Send home an invite for parents to attend all field trips.

    Tell parents that you would love extra hands and eyes in a classroom; name days and activities.

    I had parents come in for a Gingerbread T-Shirt painting activity. I ask them to coordinate it...They did a great job and the shirts were adorable.

    Lots of communication is key.

  5. my sons go to this great developmental preschool that pushed for child independence so much that it almost felt like they were pushing away the parents, too.

    the daily communication notebooks and the quarterly PTCs help keep me abreast with my sons' activities and development, but sometimes i just want to be physically there to see how my kids are doing and how the school is treating them.

    then, the school started having mom month and dad month (where moms and dads come to school to demo a certain skill the kids can learn, like cooking, playing guitar, etc) and what-i-wanna-be-when-i-grow-up month (parents come again to explain their jobs to kids).  so parent involvement is there after all.

    but it would be nicer if there was a family sports day or maybe a bazaar day every now and then, too.

  6. write and send out a monthly newsletter that is just for your classroom.  include a letter to the parents and include what's going on for the month (theme), what items are needed that they can donate (parents love to contribute), beautiful junk items they can bring from home (toilet paper/paper towel rolls, buttons, etc), class birthdays for that month, special events in that month (field trip, holidays the school is closed, teacher birthdays, special visitors), a calendar they can put on the fridge with all the special events already on it, a coloring page for the child, healthy menu suggestions that they can make as a family, updates on anything that could relate to kids (parenting tips, healthy lifestyle choices, early education update, etc)

    make it fun and informative.  use graphics and come up with a name for it like 'the information station'.  be creative and have lots of fun with it.

  7. Career days are always fun! :D
